3.1. Subscribing and Connecting with Events

Subscribe to Event Calendar

Every site on TownLife has its' own Event Calendar feed. This allows you to connect to the entire calendar, or import individual events into your personal calendar.

If a website on TownLife uses the event calendar, you can connect directly to this calendar by clicking the "subscribe to calendar" link. This will connect directly with a .ICS file that is the live information about that event calendar. This .ICS file can easily be imported by your iPhone, Microsoft Outlook, or Google Calendar.

What does this mean for you? TownLife now supports calendar connections without requiring that you sync them manually.

What is an .ICS File?

iCalendar calendar file format (Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCal) - common and mostly used .ics file type The ICS file extension is mainly associated with Microsoft Outlook, a personal information manager, which is part of Microsoft Office, developed by Microsoft Corporation. But the ICS format is widely used by many other applications.

The .ics file format is universal calendar format used by many other applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCal, Mozilla Sunbird, and Google Calendar. It allows users to publish and share calendar data on internet. Other users can subscribe to published calendars and import events into their own calendars. The .ics files contain calendar data. The specifications for this format are described in RFC 2445.
